Fragile ((Contra)Bass Trombone Quartet)

Fragile ((Contra)Bass Trombone Quartet) Fragile was written for the Slide Factory Festival 2017. It’s was premiered by Brandt Attema, Mark Boonstra, Marijn Michgielsen and Rommert Groenhof. After a short introduction, a death march starts to move. On top of it a solemn melody. The sounds of the 4 instruments blend as no other instruments can. Although the register is quite low and dark, the melodic feeling stays present. The death march comes to an end and the 2 bottom line instruments play a introduction to a Bach wise intervention. What comes next, is a combination of absolute technical ability and lyrical gesture. Both themes are combined in each other. The instruments come to their full potential reaching the Finale. Fragile can be played (and was originally written) with 4 Contra Bass Trombones. However, it is also possible to mix it with Bass Trombones. This gives a little bit more “Fragileness” to this challenging piece.
