Its Full of Stars (000.44) (It’s Full of Stars was written in the spring of 2014 at the request of Jason Smith, to whom the piece is dedicated. The work, written for an 8-part tuba-euphonium ensemble, is in a repetitive-construct minimal style that incorporates a number of rhythmic motives that interweave and overlap to form an ever-changing texture. This morphing texture is at times dense and aggressive and at other times quite thin and apprehensive before it evolves into a new section. The title refers to the 1968 Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey. This piece is meant to represent and evoke a ‘sensory-overload’ and a feeling of awe. It’s Full of Stars was premiered at the 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Bloomington, Indiana, by the Ohio University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble. Solo Parts Included: Euphonium 1-4, Tuba 1-4)
