Tower March (4 Natural (Baroque) Trumpets, Timpani & Carillon) (Neuheit Trompete) Tower March was composed for Ensemble Trumpetissimo and the 28th Gdańsk Carillon Festival in 2026, following the success of earlier concerts in Denmark and Sweden featuring music for natural trumpets and historical timpani. The work will be performed in Gdańsk by Ensemble Trumpetissimo together with city carillonist Monika Kaźmierczak. The piece was written for the carillon of St. Catharines Church in Gdańsk, one of the few functioning carillons in Poland. A second version was later adapted for the carillon of Brøndby Strand Church in Denmark, which required transposition and some octave changes due to the instruments different range and tuning. The combination of natural trumpets, timpani, and carillon is highly unusual. As a specialist in natural trumpet performance, the composer sought to explore the unique blend of these instrumental colors. Because natural trumpets can only play notes from the harmonic series, the work uses trumpets in three different tunings (D, D-flat, and C) to create richer and more unconventional harmonies, particularly emphasizing darker minor sonorities that complement the sound of the carillon.
