The folk tune, also known as "Prisoners Hope", was one of the most popular songs of the American Civil War. The song, written from the prisoners point of view, tells his fellow prisoners that hope is coming. This timeless tune has been used across the musical gamut, including the childrens song "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and the Mormon hymn, "In Our Loveley Deseret".
