Summer Song and Dance (Neuheit Posaune) This duet was written at the request of Brett Baker for a trombone duet with piano to be played at a summer school in July 2024. It features a lyrical opening section using that part of the trombone range with its most distinctive, cantabile tone before launching into a showy fast dance – as requested! The aim was to give both duettists some of the melodic line in the song and then some of the interesting faster bits in the dance. The piece is not musically complex but rather straightforward and fun; the song is deliberately open and tranquil and then the dance retains the warm, summer character while allowing the trombonists a bit of a chance to show off.
